Yasmin Gate – Interview

Share this: Twitter | StumbleUpon | Facebook | Delicious | digg | reddit | buzz | eMail | LinkedIn

This is my second interview with Yasmin Gate. I met her six years ago at the Bavarien Gigolo Night in Munich. At this time she was better known as one half of  the provocative and sexy electro duo Dirty Princess. (Check out the video of this live performance from 2005, at the bottom of this post). Now she ventures onto the electronic scene on her own with the release of her first track No Fear on David Carretta’s Label Space Factory. Her actual project consists of a refreshing and uplifting, yet sometimes introspective (like her hit Supershine); dark beats with hypnotic voices that will shake the whole dancefloor. After a very successful 2010 performing on her own worldwide, now in 2011 she begins a new project accompanied by the young Berlin-based spanish producer Javier Hermosa (VitaminH).

In her upcoming debut album YG, she counts with the collaborations of renowned artists like T. Raumschmiere, Ikki, Equitant, Douglas McCarthy (member of the band Nitzer Ebb), Pillage and many other musicians yielding an album that boasts an eclectic and unique sound. One of the most successful releases in this new project has been the release of Love Devotion EP, produced by Ikki with remixes by The Chaenge in Space Factory; hitting the Beatport Top100 for several weeks. The Album YG has been preceded by a number of EPs featuring T.Raumschmiere (Go On EP 2010), Douglas McCarthy (Lips EP 2010), all released by Space Factory, that have been a great success of sales and had very good welcome by critics and fans. This year of 2011 promises to be even more interesting for the work of Yasmin.

Interview

TM: Let’s talk about your brandnew EP LIPS. This time you have a real famous guest vocalist on your side. Douglas McCarthy from the amazing EBM group Nizzer Ebb, which is really awesome! How did you get in touch with him?

YG: The  Lips ep  is a dream come true. I met Douglas for many years, we share the stage at the time that I sang in Dirty Princess. When I started working on the songs of my incoming album I didn’t had no doubt about him. I send him the first idea of the song and, he and Keith Ruggiero, recorded voices  at Sound Red Studio in Los Angeles California and were responsible for the wonderful prodution. The EP is completed with two luxury remixes , one Nomenklatur and the other by  Ruben Montesco.

TM: Tell me a bit about this collaboration. This was not the first collabo in the last time. You worked successful together with artists like T.Raumschmiere, Pillage, Ikki and a lot of other musicians. It would seem that you always on the scout for some cool and interesting partners, since you divorce from Dirty Princess, right?

YG: The original idea of Yasmin Gate  is to open the door to other artists,  I like to collaborate with other minds that can enrich my work and myself. Because not only the result is good, but I learn a lot on the road that leads me to a good result.

TM: So tell me who is your next victim you wanna work together?

YG: I always say, I can not advance what will come because it loses the scent given off by the novelty, but I can assure you I will not disappoint you.

TM: 2011 has just begun, so what are your plans for the nearat future?

YG: I started 2011 with a lot of enthusiasm. I’m on stage with VitaminH now, he plays keyboards, loops and has launched the live to be much more powerful. We had the pleasure of testing it a few weeks ago  at Tresor Club in Berlin and also at a charity concert where we could share the stage with none other than Nina Hagen. The result was really excellent. So we expect that this year,   will be very good and prolific for us, also because my album “YG” will be out at Space  Factory Records.

TM: Are you going on tour somewhere or do you play some club gigs, maybe in austria too? … would be cool! ;)

YG: I been touring al the 2010 and for sure it will be like it was this year, Im looking foward to play in Austria, they want as to play at Flex in Vienna , and I also would love to play at Postgarage in Graz. I was there some years ago with Dirty Princess. was a lot of fun.

TM: Last question…Is there anything else you wanna tell my audience?

YG: Yes sure, please keep the faith and the love to the other stronger as you have it for your self. my best wihes and love for everybody!

TM: Thanks a lot for the Interview and all the best for your future!

The Art of Chris Faccone

Share this: Twitter | StumbleUpon | Facebook | Delicious | digg | reddit | buzz | eMail | LinkedIn

Here comes another post about one of my favorite artists and designers. This time with an exclusive interview and showcase.

Savage House, Sunset Cruisin, SaKura NighT, Ghost Driver, Kenobii, Canyon Group, Patterns of Creation, Design Library, Street War, Rio Blast, and Wave Dancer are some of the music projects of New Jersey-based artist Chris Faccone. Also known for his two independent digital music labels, Ghost Car and ABC Order.  He is also the graphic designer for all of these music projects. You may know him as Sakura Night, Andorian Alucard, Corey, Robin Wrenshaw, Kenobii Roberts, Bradley Wild, Lance Local, and a number of more aliases he has gone by.

One main reason you may be familiar with him is because he was the creator of the MOTU compilations. Gathering over 250 music projects from the small guys to the big leagues to make one of the biggest compilations of all time in this music genre. Unfortunately Mattel got involved because of the MOTU title and shut the whole thing down. Due to the overwhelming feeling of letting everyone down he closed most of his music projects up and went on hiatus, focusing more on his comic art skills. Taking on commissions. T-shirt design and doing as much free lance work as possible. All though online people know Chris for his Masters of the Universe fan art, comic commission illustrations and music. The locals know him from his 15 years of tattooing other wise known as Mookie Roc.

Interview

TM: How old are you and since when are you graphic designer/tattoo artist?

CF: I’m 33 years old and I have been a Tattooist for 15 years or more. I just started doing graphic design in 08. I have been drawing my whole life though.

TM: Tell me something about your education and career.

CF: Well for my comics style illustrations I had private lessons with 2 comics book artist. Guy Dorian and Tom McWeeney. I do commissions whenever I can. As for tattooing it’s a great job because whenever I’m not tattooing I get to work on comic commissions or designs for my music. I actually wish I could do that full time. I need a change. Tattooing is great but its really just a job to me. Not my love or anything. I do love where I work though.

TM: You did all designs for your music projects by your self. What is your favorite project and why?

CF: Yes for the most part. I had a friend or two come over and help out for something to do. For a little while there I had my buddy Rikk Sloan from the New Sins working on music with me. He was involved in Ghost Driver and Savage House.
My favorite project of mine? Now that is a tuff one to answer. I would have to say whatever one I’m working on at the time. I had a lot of fun with Savage House because it was my come back album. Street War was great but a lot of work. I guess I would have to say Ghost Driver. it never feel like work when I’m doing that project, just fun. I also like doing Kenobii tracks too.

TM: “Syn” is a character, created for your project Savage House. Can you tell me something about “Syn’s” background story?

CF: Yes she is Savage House’s mascot you could say. I’m actually still working on her story. I have 3 different ones I’m coming up with and will be told when I find it fit. I will say she is a demon and it is based around a 80′s high school theme. I plan on doing a comic soon.

TM: 2011 has just begun. What are your plans for this year…any projects in the pipeline?

CF: I’m working on a new project right now with 80′s Stallone. I don’t know how far we are going to take it but it has a nice winter sound. I hope to get it done before winter is over. I also am finishing up on a Savage House Ep. it will be release by Swedish Columbia. I have a Sunset Cruisin ep in the works along with a Ghost Driver singer too. I’m really busy drawing comics so I hope I can fit these all in this year as well.

TM: Is there something else you wanna say to our audience?

CF: Thanks for supporting me through all my different projects and I’m glad you are enjoying my little worlds I create. Thanks for having me on your spot!

SuperStupidBros Interview

Share this: Twitter | StumbleUpon | Facebook | Delicious | digg | reddit | buzz | eMail | LinkedIn

Applause  applause, here comes the next residents of the Designers Olymp! The brotherhood of Superfuturistic Retro Design comes along with a short Q&A about their design, inspirations and current projects! SuperStupidBros is the small Berlin-based design studio. The business, set up by two brothers, works exclusively with close friends and designers. Like in a band, there are no employees but rather members, who know each others flaws and flavors. Work should be fun and most of all work has to rock. Additional to illustrations and artworks for international musicians, record labels and event series, the guys from Berlin Neukölln started producing a small collection of T-Shirts with prints of selected works, called THE APOLLO KRIEG PROJECT.

Q: Hi Florian, you are working together with your brother as designer and illustrator in Berlin. So tell me, since when and how came the Super Stupid Bros into business?

A: Hello Daniel, my brother michael and me, we both have been working as graphic designers for many years in different fields and with various people. We are 9 years apart in age and come from different backgrounds. For me it was graffiti and my brother had his own record label. We started our first project together, lets see, around 2008 just for fun. We noticed that we actually have much in common,a same sense for aesthetics, a strong affinity to custom types, often we share the same likes and dislikes, most of all the abiltity to sit in front of a computer for hours and hours and even feeling satisfied by doing it. This was the birth of the Superstupidbros. Now we work together with a lot of bros in all kind of creative directions.

Q: How is the apportioment of work between you and your brother?

A: Most likely it´s who ever wants the job, gets the job. No, actually we are pretty busy, so we have to split up. We share our ideas and work together until a certain point and then one has to finish the job, so the other one can do whatever is needed next. Each of us has some special abilities and we get along this way pretty good. If its getting too heavy we also get help from friends.

Q: Tell me something about your workflow and where did you get your inspiration?

A: We get our inspirations from daily life, the people we meet, the environment we move around in, the music we listen to and books, magazines, articles and publications we read. We learn a lot from our older works and are in a constant exchange about different artists and designs from the past to the present. We both have different tastes but we always manage to combine them pretty well. Our work process starts with brainstorming, finding associations and ideas. Then we do type designs, artwork scribbles and basic computer served drafts. We get feedback from our clients and then continue to deepen our concept. Then comes the software and the finish of the work. Sometimes we repeat these steps and switch the treatment until its done.

Q: You made a lot artworks for international musicans and record labels. Which artist was the “coolest” to work for?

A: Cool is, what ever is new, because it allows us more scope for action. In the best way this involves a clear agreement of all people involved- thesis, antithesis and synthesis, that rocks. But actually we dont favor any of our customers, they are all pretty cool.

Q: 2011 has just begun, so what are your plans for this year?

A: We been working a lot lately. We want to create a little more room for ourselfs and new projects. That means we still will work for chosen international projects but we will also try to work more independent. For example we gonna push our own brand “Apollo Krieg” and engage in exibition making. We also going to move in a new studio with a larger showroom. Less service, more art.

Q: Is there anything else you wanna tell to our audience?

A: No, dont waste too much time on your computer and in the internet ;) Peace.
