Alphabethead – Flying Destar

Somewhere between the worlds of Hip Hop, Post Punk and Dubstep exists Alphabethead, a tea-drinking, turntable musician from Wellington, New Zealand. A performer equally adept at rocking boisterous Hip Hop crowds as he is to intriguing audiences at jazz festivals – Alphabethead has been described as “a virtuoso of the phonograph turntable” and “an outrageous performer whom you really must see to fully comprehend”.
Once New Zealand’s champion Hip Hop DJ, Alphabethead is now an explorer/destroyer of all sound-on-vinyl. From Mongolian throat singing and psychedelic guitars to field recordings and drum breaks – no LP is taboo. His performances always hold surprises and his unique approach allows him to coax wonderfully strange sounds from the turntable; “…a highlight was Alphabethead’s melodic turntable solo” wrote one reviewer. Expect noise, heavy beats and vinyl trashing. Imagine an aggressive Kid Koala or if Mixmaster Mike scratched post punk.

This LP Cover Design was made for my good friend Hajot, better known as Thelema. Thelema was founded in summer `94 in Austria, with the goal to produce independent sound compositions. An hypnotic sound with a distinct film soundtrack atmosphere has developed over the years. Most of the elder releases are out of print but some will be available for download soon on BandCamp!
The new album „Hearing the Light“ came to birth during a recording session with Steindor Andersen (the master of Icelandic epic rimur song ,well known for his cooperation with Sigur Ros and Hilmar Örn Hilmarson) and explores new musical territory. A virtual soundtrack mixing Film Noir with `60s and `70s Italo Trash.
Europloitation music for the modern age in its present state!
It will be released on limited Vinyl and on Cd in the end of 2011 via Totem Records. Check it out on www.totem-records.com or on his BandCamp site.
Released Date: 11 November 2011

Crazy Daylight – Maximise the Rig

Maximise the Rig, the new 3 Track EP from Crazy Daylight ranging from Electro, Glitch Hop, Dub Step and Crunk there is also a strong Pop influence. This is seriously, funked up electronic music with dynamic bass lines, glitched out vocals and a twisted mash of melodic and heavy dancefloor grooves.
Crazy Daylight’s sets are a real musical performance using keyboards, drum pads, vocals and glitch modules. In a scene where the word live is meagrely used to describe djs triggering a few clips in Ableton and tweaking a few effect knobs, crazy daylight is setting the standard for real live performance. This said, the sounds are a distant leap from the mellow and organic sounds of many live performers in the electronic realm such as the bird or wild marmalade. This is seriously, funked up electronic music with dynamic bass lines, glitched out vocals and a twisted mash of melodic and heavy dancefloor grooves.
